#ItsBeenGreatUF

Going into college I was so nervous. I did not know what to expect and I was really scared. People told me it would be the best time of my life and I didn't know what to believe. 4 and a half years laters, I can tell you it was. I am so happy to have had the privilege of attending the University of Florida. I have learned more than I can put into words. All I can say is this: One of my favorite authors is Mitch Albom. He wrote the classic novels Five People You Meet In Heaven and Tuesdays with Morrie. Before I started college, I saw a Mitch Albom quote that changed my perspective upon this crazy life transition. "College doesn't make you-- you make college." If I can give any of my readers advice, it's this. Get involved in as many things as possible. Try as many things as possible. Do what you're passionate about and do what makes you happy. And surround yourself with people who want to do the same. That is the best way to meet like-minded individuals,...

#Blessed For Target Copy

Image
Where do you go for cheap printing and 24/7 access to computers? Target Copy! They are my lifesavers. Black and white on regular 8x11 print paper is only $.10 a page. Plus they print posters, booklets, playbills, you name it. All computer access charges per minute. Still, it's a great life saver and super easy to manage if you don't have access to a printing. Target Copy has a couple locations in the Gainesville area. Here's the address for the one on Archer:  1412 W University Ave, Gainesville, FL 32603 And here's the one for the address at Midtown:  1412 W University Ave, Gainesville, FL 32603  Now go get printing!

#TogetherUF

Image
An unfortunate occurrence happened this semester followed by something pretty incredible. White Nationalist Richard Spencer came to speak. Spencer is the leader of the National Policy Institute, a group that promotes a homogenous white population. The group has been deemed hateful and seen by the vast majority as racist, bigoted, and irreverent. This horrible man came, so how did our University respond? Were students and faculty attending this speech in support or promoting hate speech around campus? Quite opposite. The campus came together. The hashtag #TogetherUF went viral. People began spreading love and putting a halt to all hate speech. There was #ChalkforPeace and Good Deed Marathons on the day Spencer came. This was followed by a peaceful protest that successfully shut Spencer out. Inside the venue Spencer literally couldn't speak because no one would let him. Not on our campus. It was truly great to be a Gator that day--- coming together for the greater good. Check...

What it means to be Greek.

Image
Going into college, I had no idea what to expect. All I knew was that I wanted to pursue theatre. I wasn't fond of drinking and partying, but I knew I wanted a fun, meaningful college experience. When Rush week approached, I heard there was free food-- and I like food! So I went and by the fourth day I had accepted my bid at Alpha Espilon Pi. As I approach my graduation in less than two weeks, there are a lot of achievements I am really proud of. Joining my fraternity is one of them. Often Greek life is overshadowed with negative stereotypes and horror studies from the media. But the Greek life I have gotten to know has been quite different. My fraternity was there for me through all of my trials and tribulations. When I came out of the closet my freshman year, I didn't know what to expect. When I finally took a leap of faith, I was overwhelmed with love and support. That's the Greek life I know. A community that raises millions of dollars for sick children and a comm...

Best Pizza of Gainesville

Image
What's a movie without popcorn? What's peas without carrots? What's Prince William without Kate Middleton? Nothing of course. So my question for you is, What's college without pizza?     Gainesville has some rocking pizza joints that you need to hit up during your time here. Here are my top 3 favorites: 1) Italian Gator (AKA Pizza by the Slice)  Commonly known as Pizza By the Slice, this little stand is located in Midtown. They're open until 2:30 am so they're perfect for that late night craving. Located at 1728 W University Ave, Gainesville, FL 32603 2) Big Lou's New York Style Pizzeria  Big Lou's happens to be my father's favorite place to eat in Gainesville. Located Downtown, Big Lou's gives you the typical New York Pizzeria experience. There is an outside patio to sit back, relax, and munch on that cheesy cheesy pizza. Located at 5 SE 2nd Ave, Gainesville, FL 32601 3) Satchel's  ...
